You seem to be oblivious to the fact that your city has brought criminal charges against you due to your illegal apartment. You desperately need to retain a lawyer to handle your case and do the talking because youre in for a world of hurt if you show up to your arraignment spewing about how nice the illegal apartment is and hownthe awful tenants left pizza boxes behind.

Understand that this case is about YOU, not your former tenants in any way.

yeah you need to settle down. I just spoke to the inspector himself and even he's not as irked as you are. He told me basically to do what Fred said and I might not even have to pay a fine. I know you're so happy for me.

Well the difference is the inspector is not in the position to enforce the law or impose a fine, the prosecutor and the judge will be the deciding voice. Doubtful you will walk away without some sort of fine. Yea, I' really so happy for you??? Oh, with a desk appearance ticket, it will appear as an arrest on your record.

Sorry to disappoint you but it's a violation. Again, a violation is not a crime. A crime is either a misdemeanor or a felony.
