I suppose it depends what's in your lease. I have something about "sanitary condition" in my lease.

But if the house is an obstacle course where repairmen (or you) can't navigate because of empty boxes and stuff, I don't think you're out of line in telling her to at least break them down and store them somewhere out of the way. Storing empty boxes on top of the cooktop is a fire hazard.

If it's just a few empty boxes that aren't in anyone's way, I would ignore it.

Again, good common sense advice. I too have a "residential use" clause in my lease that requires clean & sanitary conditions. Right now, there are about 20 to 30 boxes per room with another 30 or more outside with tons of clothes & stuff outdide. I see lizards running in and out of the boxes and clothes and know in our wooded area, the rats are probably starting to check the stuff out too. YUCK!!! I'll tackle the outside first, then the inside.
