Deposits and Reciepts? by Ted (New York ) on September 25, 2016 @08:20

When returning security deposits, does the landlord have to provide the Reciepts to the tenants for costs that have been deducted?
This is in NEW YORK STATE.
Thanks

You are not legally required to do so.....but, I have always done that. By providing copies of my receipts, I think I have head off a few complaints.

If the tenant chooses to file in small claims, you will have to produce them anyway...why not up front?

In NY it only costs $25 to file in small claims, so it is not a big deal to go do this, but it is a waste of your time ....so, Any thing you can do to encourage the tenant to avoid this time-waster is a good thing..right?
