I'm from Iowa, and I think you need to get in contact with an attorney TOMORROW, ASAP. Make sure they know the Landlord/ Tenant laws of Iowa inside and out before you hire them. Tell the attorney your story, and let them get in contact your old LL and the new management company. Yes,it will cost you for the attorney, but that's better than getting evicted later on, if the Man.Comp. has done everything according to our state laws. Your attorney will guide you thru all this, as he will be representing YOU. You may even end up giving your rent to your attorney, who will make sure it gets paid to the right party. Be sure you have Nov, rent ready to be paid on the 1st of Nov. to the new Man. Comp. in cash or money order. And, yes, they can make you sign a new lease, or make you move. Follow your attorney's advice if you want a happy ending to all this.
