Looking for Hope and Relief in an Eviction (NY) - Landlord Forum thread 349460

Looking for Hope and Relief in an Eviction (NY) by deelite on November 29, 2016 @15:35

Filed a non-payment case against a tenant. The court case has been postponed after learning, at the court house, that the tenant "hired a lawyer" on a last minute's notice thus moving the court date out another month.

How long can a tenant keep prolonging a non-payment case for? I know this is a common tactic that pro fraud tenants can do to landlords.

Am starting to feel more distressed and anxious than days before the court date.

Amongst this ordeal, I have unearth some serious crime involvement in the tenant's past that I feel is a reflection of what the tenant may be doing now.

All I care, regardless if I can get repayment out of this, is for the tenant move out of my property. I haven't expressed the criminal history with my attorney, yet.

The tenant criminal history had nothing to do with when you took his money and him presently living on your property. Nonpayment is not criminal, you probably need to pay another attorney if you are here looking for answers, you might as well pay off the tenant with the attorney fees to move out.
