notifying Section 8 agency to terminate . . . - Landlord Forum thread 351243

notifying Section 8 agency to terminate . . . by Ann (WI) on March 20, 2017 @01:33

This is a different issue than the one I sent earlier.

Has anyone given notice to terminate renting to a homeless shelter? A section 8 tenant lives there through the homeless shelter.

I want to terminate renting to the homeless shelter.

Because it is a government agency, do I follow the same laws as with any other tenant, ie., 30 day certified letter, etc, etc?

Thank you.

Do you have a contract or agreement with the government agency? If so, what does it say about termination of services?

Sec. 8 usually starts out with a 1 year lease, and then goes M2M after that. I believe Sec 8 would request that you give them a 60 day notice that you no longer want to be part of their program. So if you are still inside the 1 year lease, give it to them 2 months before the end of the year lease. If you are in the M2M stage, give it to them now, to be off the program starting June 1. Be sure to send it certified mail, to both the program, and to your tenant.
