Girlfriend wants to move boyfriend in - Landlord Forum thread 351258

Girlfriend wants to move boyfriend in by Pamela on March 21, 2017 @13:04

I have a tenant that is requesting her boyfriend be permitted to move in. If I grant the request I will run the same background on him as I did on her and add an addendum to her original lease regarding an additional tenant. My lease states an additional tenant will raise the rent x amount. My question is: should I require him to pay a security deposit?

Yes. The larger security deposit, the better. Just as long as the total amount does not exceed your state's maximum deposit you may collect.

Most states limit the amount that a landlord can hold on deposit.

Check your state landlord/tenant laws to be sure you are within that limit.
