Long Term Guest - Landlord Forum thread 351272

Long Term Guest by Ali on March 22, 2017 @10:09

I have a friend who just moved back to town. I want him to stay as a long-term guest. Today he got an oral argument with the landlord because he used the TV in the gym to play his music. The landlord threaten to call the police on him.

I think I should add him to my "long term guest". He has no criminal or bad credit history.Very educated. Can she still refuse for him to stay? If so can she evict me for hosting him?

YES, she can refuse to let him stay, and YES, she can "evict" the both of you if you let him stay. YOU do not have any say in the matter one way or the other. A "guest" can o0nly stay about 1 week, whereas an APPROVED TENANT can stay as long as the lease/LL allows. It is TOTALLY up to your LL if he can stay there or not. What you should do now, is have your friend fill out an application for the LL, (probably the same one like you filled out) and let the LL make a decision on your friend. IF your LL allows him to stay, both of you need to be prepared to add him to the lease, pay an extra amount towards the deposit, and more on the rent. Or be prepared to be "evicted" if you try to sneak him in, and not tell the LL.

"No, the courts have stated that tenants are allowed guest and visitors no matter what the lease states. The landlord can only limit excess visitation or guess if there is a valid reason to do so." I'm still waiting to read the so called court ruling.
