Accepting tenants with pets - Landlord Forum thread 351372

Accepting tenants with pets by Wayne (IN) on March 27, 2017 @15:22

I hear so much about therapy animals.
Can I have a straight across the board NO PETS rule?

One property is a rooming house and people have allergies.

You can have a no pets rule, but therapy animals are not considered pets under fair housing. That means if the tenant is disabled and has need of a therapy animal, you must accommodate. Having allergies is not a protected class and is not a legal defense to deny someone that needs a therapy animal.

Require documentation of therapy animal.

Rooming house may fit the Mrs Murphy Exemption, in which case, you don't need to allow pets.
