After you have gotten a judgement from the court....a monetary judgement...you need to first make sure the clerk of the court has recorded it. In some counties they require an extra fee to perform this additional step.
Next...go to the court clerk and get the forms to file...to get a levy inquiry. The bank will not discuss with you or reveal to you anything concerning the possible accounts without that court order. Bring a copy of the original judgement with you.
With the court order for the levy inquiry...you can go and serve this on the bank. Once you have all the correct account information, you can get from the bank the form they require to "freeze" the account. This you need to get signed by the court clerk and returned to the bank officials.
I know that in Massachusetts you cannot do this as a private individual...in NY you can.
It is actually simplier to pay a court marshal bill to do this for you.
