What was the cause of the flood? The weather? A broken pipe? Or...?

If it was something out of your control, you should not have to cover it. That's what renter's insurance is for.

a flood that occurred sometime during winter/spring of this year she claims -no structural elements have or are damaged otherwise it would've been brought to my attention a long time ago
