Increase - Landlord Forum thread 353759

So my landlord increased my rent almost $700.00 and did not notify me. She continued taking the rent for 6 months that was agreed upon but is not evicting me for nonpayment of rent. How can she increase my rent to an amount that I don't even make working. BTW Im a single mother of 2 and we live in income based apartments. Wouldn't she have evicted me after the first missed payment at the beginning of the year. Who knowingly allows a tenant to live without paying rent for over half a year? Now I have fees averaging over 6000 and was requested to pay them in full. I am not the only victim of this cruel joke she is playing.

She collects the majority of the rent from section 8, not from you. You probably pay less than 10% of the total monthly rent. Best bet for you is to call section 8.

Are you renting from a single landlord or you renting from a local public housing agency?

As to the fees, they may not be able to enforce collection of them. The landlord may have waived their rights to collect by not promptly taking action to enforce payment as it was due.

Your first sentence makes no sense. Rent raised but not notified. Then, HOW DO YOU KNOW it was raised? That's an annoying post--the whole thing.
