Send it to the rental property address where they lived by certified mail. The T may not ever go pick up the letter at the post office. Eventually the letter will be returned to you. Just keep the un-open envelope in a file encase the T takes you to court. I see thus as free money from that point on. Never had anyone come back for it.

Will do. Thanks a lot for your advice, Peter.

It's not free money! Failure to file within 45 days can mean the tenants may claim double the security amount. You loose your right to deduct from the security deposit and being required to return the tenants entire deposit even if they owe you money! t7xcFollow your state laws instead of poor opinions from those who have no idea what they are talking about.

If you are refunding any of the tenants security deposit and it remains unclaimed from you, you are required to follow Michigan Department of Treasury Unclaimed Property requirements and guidelines for reporting the unclaimed funds and turning the funds over to the state after a certain period of time. There are very steep fines for failure to follow this requirement.
