If you are refunding any of the tenants security deposit and it remains unclaimed from you, you are required to follow Michigan Department of Treasury Unclaimed Property requirements and guidelines for reporting the unclaimed funds and turning the funds over to the state after a certain period of time. There are very steep fines for failure to follow this requirement.
