You don't have to legally inform them, but as a courtesy it would be nice. If I were the renter(s) I would like to know that the LL would be on the property frequently.

I second this. Let the tenants know that you'll occasionally be using the garage and will try to give them a heads up as a courtesy (but let them know you aren't required to do this legally).

If you are using it really often, like every weekend, I would just let them know some weekends you are going to come by to access the garage but won't be bothering them. (It would be excessive to give them a text message for example 5x a month!)
