It's not good to put smoke detectors in kitchens, just outside bathrooms with showers, or within 15 ft of a fireplace. The new ones nowadays are very sensitive, and will set off with hardly any smoke or heat present. Steam from a bathroom also sets them off. After 1 or 2 keep going off several times while people are just doing their daily activities, pretty soon the tenants take out the batteries, and then they are worthless.
