Is this owed rent? by Carol (New York) on June 6, 2018 @11:24

The tenant breached a stipulation and stayed an extra month. They are now out and won't pay for the month. Can this be reported to Transunion? It's technically not rent though. Can the LPA collection service try and collect it for me through Transunion and can this money owed be reported as unpaid?

Does NY allow you to deduct unpaid rent out of the security deposit? If so, take it from there.

When they overstayed the lease, did you post pay or quit and then file for eviction.

If so, just get the judgement. Then send to a collection agency then that way it gets on the credit report.

If you did not post pay or quit and then file, you have little recourse.

Yes...you can deduct unpaid rent from the deposit in NY

You can take them to small claims for unpaid moneys owed

You cannot report to the credit bureaus directly...but, after you win in small claims... if they do not pay , you can get the county court clerk to report it to the credit bureaus
