OK, here's one for the HVAC people among us or LL's who can help ME.
Need to replace split 5 ton / w horizontal air handler (no furnace). 14 seer - single speed compressor, but I want variable OR multi-speed air handler blower.
I can't get a straight answer about the operational difference between Variable vs multi speed and I get multi answers (including the """huhhhhhh") about whether blower speed is controlled by air flow conditions within the air handler,....or is controlled by the thermostat.
I understand that with TWO SPEED blower motors, properly wired, a capable thermostat will run CIRCULATE function at lower speed and COOLING function at higher speed.
HELP ! ?

...and do I need a special thermostat to control a multi-speed blower motor.
All thermostats have now been changed out to digital / electronic.
