Bed bugs - Landlord Forum thread 359002

Bed bugs by Carol on February 3, 2019 @10:19

One of my tenants had bedbugs. Now they are spreading to another apartment. Can I hold the first tenant responsible for the exterminator fee for the second apartment?

Also can I evict the first tenant for the spreading of bedbugs?

What PROOF do you have, that will hold up in a court of law, that this single tenant brought the bedbugs in? Can you find the previous tenants of both of these apartments, and they can write a notorized statement saying there were no problems with BBs when they moved out? You will not be able to "evict" someone thru the court system, if you cannot prove your case. You can, however, give a minimum 30 (or even 60) day notice at the end of your lease with the T, for them to move out. If they don't comply, you can then go to court seeking to evict them as a holdover T.
