You need to read your state law on the entire eviction process and follow it exactly. In general you need to post a notice to "quit or cure" with whatever you state has for a timeline. Used to be 4 days, but some crazy states like Colorado have now made it 10 days notice.

You dont need a lawyer to do the first step at all, and can easily do all of it yourself once you find out what your laws are.

PS, yes call them right away. The longer you wait and do things incorrect the worse it will be for you.

If you get a lawyer then you should not make any contact at all and let the attorney handle it.
