Lease Non-Renewal, Massachusetts - Landlord Forum thread 360077

Lease Non-Renewal, Massachusetts by Denie on December 22, 2019 @20:11

Hi All,
I own a duplex and live on one side. I have a tenant with two minor children living on the other side. She has been here for 3 years under a yearly lease. She hasn't violated her lease, per se, but without getting into the details, she is generally a nuisance, and I don't want to renew her lease again next year. However, I am concerned that she will not want to leave and could use the two children to claim discrimination against me, which is apparently quite easy to do; the burden would be on me to prove that I am NOT discriminating against her, which I am truly not doing. I just want to move on. I do have additional renovations that I would like to do in the kitchen, but since I am not required by law to give a reason, I don't want to. However, I am thinking I could protect myself better by giving her this reason. At the end of the day, I just want to avoid legal trouble. Thank you.
