Re: How long does a Landlord have to inspect a rental? - Landlord Forum thread 360545

Re: How long does a Landlord have to inspect a rental? by lpadave on May 29, 2020 @04:06

Depends on State and City.
.........what are the charges for ?
.......complex question.
My opinion is you paid rent through end of lease term, so technically you were still the tenant through end date although you technically surrendered possession by giving back the keys

Forty four days of """dust"""" might be an hour or two.....maybe fifty dollars
Your before and after pictures if you have any will tel the story.

the charges were for the floors having dust on them, the counter tops not being cleaned enough and the weeds on the side of the house grew back. Along with more charges Im sure. She is the type of landlord that if something isnt done exactly her way then it needs fixed. I spend hours cleaning that place to the best of my abilities because I didnt want to go through this but I still am anyway

She inspected the day after your lease ended, so the weeds are on you and technically so are the dusty floors. Your landlord sounds lazy but she is technically right. At this point you will have to wait for the deposit statement and then see what you are up against. Check you state laws for how long she has to return deposit.
