Can I install a camera in a common area ? - Landlord Forum thread 360631

Can I install a camera in a common area ? by ownernj on July 6, 2020 @17:56

This is a 2 family house. A tenant from one unit made up issues, and physically assaulted the other tenant in the other unit. Now the victim tenant requested me to install a camera in the common area which is a joint section between two doors to two different units.

My question is, is there any legal issues, can I do that?
In Lease, there are no indication of if I can or cannot.

Thanks!

Make sure the cameras are not hidden and do not include any private tenant areas. Put up a sign that says "Non-monitored Security Cameras in use".
