Stove - Landlord Forum thread 361307

Stove by Carol on June 11, 2021 @20:37

My tenant moved in on January 2017. She just recently told me she needs a new stove. She said it caught on fire when she first moved in and it has been dirty since day one. I have a move in report that the stove was in working condition and clean. She was working up until November 2020. I have not received rent from her since August of 2020. I can not evict because of the moratorium. I have tried. In the mean time she has tried to sue me for a slip and fall that has since been denied. She destroyed the frame of my awning . (Over $3,000 worth of damage) I refuse to get her a new stove. I did not tell her this. I feel that she is a squatter and does not deserve a new stove. What are your opinions.

I realize you have lost a ton of money on this tenant already, but it does look like the current eviction moratorium over the whole country is coming to a close. It's set to expire in less that 3 weeks-----on June 30. Assuming it does, ( and hopefully your Governor won't extend it ), start your state's eviction process again on July 1.

I agree with you 100%-----don't talk to her about a stove, or anything else. The only thing she deserves, is an eviction, ASAP. Just start your eviction process, and hope the T does not do anymore damage than is already done.

And by the way, you won't be alone in filing for an eviction. Because of the 1 year + moratorium, the courts all over the country will be OVERLOADED with evictions the first 2 weeks in July.

wow.

This is why good credit reports are essential. People with good credit dont do things like this.

most courts will still hear and evict tenants who are causing ''waste'' to the property. sounds like you have grounds there.

while a new stove for a four and a half year tenancy is not an unreasonable request, a questionable slip and fall as denied by your carrier, and documented property destruction along with a covid claim of ''sorry,...I ain't got no money...."",......don't make her look so good !

sounds like you got stuck here with a shake down / scammer / opportunist tenant.
