I specify in lease that professional carpet cleaning only and must leave receipt. There are NO rent me or personal cleaners that actually work.

Pet odors are very hard to remove especially if from pee in the carpets.

I hope you hire a professional carpet cleaner and they should have some odor products. (esp since your previous tenant lived there 10 years.) Have them bring an ultraviolet light and show you the spots that are probably still there.

I like the idea of the professional carpet cleaning service in the lease - I have never used that. And, this is my longest tenant (I've had a couple of 5 yr ones, at different places through the yrs. but they didn't have pets. Wonder if people bulk at this inclusion in the lease??
I am working at airing the place & it has helped some - She had left some sort of plug in deorderizer, but that just seem to make it worse.
In the future I think the professional carpet cleaning would work better.

After 7 days of opening the windows every day. - cleaning the vents & vacumning carpets (vac. dusting blinds & washing some of the curtains - removing all those plug in scent things - finally the doggy is almost completely gone. Cleaning & airing helped a lot!! If some lingers in spots will try the baking soda idea :)
