Giving notice to show apartment - Landlord Forum thread 132278

Giving notice to show apartment by Anonymous on October 26, 2006 @17:39

My tenant has refused to let me show her apartment even though I called and gave 24 hrs notice. What are my rights in showing the apartment to potential renters. The apartment house is located in Upstate NY. Thanks for your help.

Yo have the right to show the rental as long as you give reasonable notice to the tenant according to local laws.

When the tenant does not cooperate, the risk losing their security deposit and probably won't get a good reference from you.

Although you have the right, it IS a major inconvenience for a tenant and personally I never show a place until I not only have possession BUT it is "rent ready" as well.

If they are fighting you on it..just wait. Showing a unit while still occupied can often times do more harm than good.
