It's not illegal for you to pay for it. They go in and fill out all of the paperwork and you send the insurance company a check once a year... You are not taking it out for them, you are just paying for it. It's the tenant's policy.

    It's a nice selling point too. They think they are getting free renters insurance (most tenants think it's much more expensive than it really is), but you are actually just building it into the rent.
