Even if you send the check & SDSS via certified mail RRR, that's not proof the mailing included the check. I would use a personal check so I can get a copy of it after it has been cashed or I can cancel it if they say they didn't receive it. I typically send it out certified mail (less expensive than RRR) and that allows me to track the mailing so I know the envelope was delivered.

thanks. DO you think it makes a difference if I send it via UPS? Is that just as good as USPS certified mail?

Probably any trackable service is fine. I wouldn't send it requiring a signature to deliver, though. Don't want to throw up any roadblocks to tenant receiving it.
