Well personally I think it kind of shows a lack of common sense to own an animal like that which 90% of LL's won't accept, when you're trying to rent. Maybe you should buy a house where you can do what you want.

Personally, I think it lacks common sense to assume instead of ask.

As a side note, there are many, many landlords that do not discriminate on breed alone. They ask to meet the pet(s), ask for a training certs ( such as "the Good Canine Citizen" award and/or certificates from the vet.

And, once they learn you already, or are willing to get- a $400,000 liability policy via your renters insurance, as well as have a 1,000,000 umbrella liability policy on top of that ( which only costs a few dollars a year by the way), they usually have enough common sense to realize you are a responsible adult, tenant, and pet owner.

I guess were just blessed with wonderful LL's and pet owners around here.

    I required renter's insurance from someone who owned two dogs (non-pits) and the policy was dropped by the carrier a few months after it was put in place, so I'm not sure that helps...

    You are also forgetting that that LL may be in the unit doing repairs from time to time, and doesn't want to be attacked by a pitbull while they're there.

    If an LL can find qualified tenants who don't own these dogs they are going to go with them rather than jump through all these hoops to give PB owners a chance...

    However if the rental is in a bad neighborhood where everyone owns vicious dogs for protection, they may have to take them, or have a vacant unit.

      Well, you can always be placed on the policy in such a way as to be informed of any cancellations, or changes.
      As well as make that a condition in the lease.

      My APBTs would never, nor have they ever, attacked anyone.
      It is the same common sense approach to any other pet owner, don't go in unless the owners are home and ask the owners to place them in a crate if you will be stopping over to do any repairs, that should go for any breed of dog.

      Most APBT owners do not live in bad neighborhoods.
      I know we certainly don't. We don't own "vicious dogs for protection". We own them because they are wonderful, loving friendly dogs. I honestly believe you have watched too many "Cop" shows, or something. Where are you getting this stuff from?

      Again, you are assuming instead of asking or researching.

      This is exactly what is wrong with all of the misinformation out there! It is deplorable.

      Landlords would be well advised not to enter any home with a dog--pitbull, lab, toy poodle or otherwise, without the dog being controlled/crated. A few years ago I was accused of damaging a tenant's dauschund -- he sprained his back jumping off a bed, but the tenants were sure I had kicked him! Last thing in the world I would do, even with a vicious dog (I've hand professional training in dog handling). They stopped short of suing me, but it wasn't a pleasant experience and it spoiled our amicable landlord/tenant relationship.
