NJ- move out without Notice - Landlord Forum thread 362385

NJ- move out without Notice by Anonymous (NJ) on May 26, 2023 @16:29

MTM tenant. 30 day notice required per lease moves out without notice. Do I need to return full deposit assuming nothing else to be charged or I can deduct 30 days of the rent?

I would suggest you charge the 30 days of rent against their deposit, and see if they contact you about it. Be sure to send your security deposit statement to them within the NJ state law time frame. You should include a copy of their signed lease, and highlight the part about the 30 day notice. The worst that can happen, is that at some future date, they may take you to court over it, and you may lose. Meanwhile, if the place is now vacant, take pics of the whole inside, change locks, and then start getting it ready again for a future tenant.
