Well, gee, the kind of advice I want is a plain answer to the question posed. Didn't think it was that difficult, but let me break it down for the slow readers --

When prorating carpet and installation costs in order to charge a tenant for damage caused by his misuse, do you use the original cost of the carpet when you bought it X years ago, or do you use the cost of the carpet replacement today?
