You don't know enough details about these tenants' circumstances to know if they wouldn't take the item with them. Their situation is such that the husband's job (it's an uncommon type of work visa that he is on) could move them to another city in this country in a year or two. My SFH is not the first they've rented in this country.

They are a family with two small children and one on the way. It's understood that the home is provided not furnished.

The word "only" is the key here. It cannot be known if this is the only request of this nature which will be made. Therefore, the question becomes one not of cost (since I don't mind spending a few bucks) but one of where to draw the line of what is a reasonable request.

The question of what's reasonable has still not been answered.

I think you are right. These people sound like microwave scam artist who rip off cheap microwaves from everywhere they stay. What you need to do is to tell these people to go find another place with a microwave and let your place stand vacant until you can find another tenant.
