Oh for cr@ps sake, don't listen to John fromwherever.
You are legally on the hook to pay for damages. The LL can sue you, get a judgement from that suit, and turn you over to collections. This will go on your "record" for when anyone does a credit and background check on you, so pay up.
Yes they can make you pay and attach your wages. Do you really want to invite this problem into your life? Pay !
