Hi - our house caught on fire in February of 2012. ALE found us a house that was big enough in our own school district that was very difficult to find in our area. The landlord provides a gardener. I have been a good tenant and tried to keep the house clean. I have been there for 2 years because my house is still not finished. We also have a dog, which was also problematic. Initially they got us a 6 month lease. But because the insurance lagged on releasing funds, which caused rebuilding to not even start until well after a year after the fire, we had to keep asking for extensions on the rental. AT first they gave us extension 3 months at a time. Then they started to do it for shorter periods of time. If I was the landlord I would be upset because you like to know if your house will need to be cleaned and rented out next month or not.But ALE was not the problem with that. It was the insurance. On the other hand, ALE does pay well over the going rental cost for the property, so that may make up for it. Also, landlords should ask if the tenants will have enough ALE to extend their rental should the house not get finished within a certain period of time. Even though we have far more than enough ALE coverage, our house is only halfway built and the insurance has ony extended our rental to the end of March and still has not released the remaining funds necessary to finish it.
