If a tenant pays rent by cash, money order or any form other than a personal check, state law requires you to give the tenant a written receipt. (RPL § 235e(a).) ...

My tenant pay by bank check with her name printed but it is NOT a personal check so I must give her a rent receipt.

Many other state have this obligation too.
