About four months ago we had our home tub, steel and some bad rusted parts, refinished for $425. Looks new; We like it. In a rental I would try the same. I think it was called tub refinishing.
Replace the tub and you are into tile work, maybe floor work, tub cost, plumbing maybe different connections. I had to replace an oversize tub in a rental that was badly cracked the whole bottom about 4-5 years ago and it turned into a bathroom remodel almost. I did get an estimate from a tub refinisher then but he was jerking me around with different prices and scenarios, hard to schedule, and I didn't trust him. In retrospect I may have used him.
