What kind of documents can I ask for to verify child-support income and that it is regular?

However you verify the child-support you must realize that this is income that is not always dependable and it is never garnishable. If you have another applicant you should move on.

How about the last year's income tax return? The child support/alimony income is reported on that, I believe.

Depends, in my state the state is the one that actually makes the payments so any tax form will show proof of child support. But Bill has a point, child support is about as reliable as over time pay and while the state will garnish child support, it takes months for that process to be seen through.

If the applicant can't afford rent without that child support, move on.

ask for the court order and also the print out from the support office that will show payments made.

While there are many deadbeats out there, there are just as many decent fathers who pay on time and never miss. If you see a pattern of long term payments, timely made, I certainly would.

Child support is for the feeding, housing, and clothing of the child. What you want to know is where the money is coming for the housing of the child's parent, because that's the money you can go after if something goes wrong.
