I have run into that a few times where employers make applicants pay to have their incomes verifyed. Rediculous! There are work arounds. I find that many supervisors wont mind verifying employment for an employee if the company doesnt make a big deal about it.

A lot of these major chain employers have it set up this way outsourcing HR task such as verifying employment/income and making employees play for that. Another way to screw the little guy.
