why are you looking for a problem that has not happened? when your tenant is ever late, just apply your late fee. The tenant has only been there two months, how can that be a habitual payment issue?

The OP is not looking for a problem -- the problem fell smack in the face.
The T appears to have immediately indicated a reluctance (nonconformance) to pay the rent WHEN DUE, which is the 1st day of the month. From this point forward, you can count on as being habitual.
That the T is not responsible enough to pay on time, from the start, is a problem.

Wow! Talking about making a mountain out of a mole hill...you sure have! In two months this tenant has turned into an irresponsible, reluctant, nonconforming, habitual late paying, smack in the face problem? Just because of a comment made by the tenant. Talk about being over paranoid!

Did you talk to the tenant about rent payments, late fees, and rent late dates? Talk to the tenant and go over your lease.
