Deadbeat tenat leaves state

Had a tenant leave the state of New Mexico. The tenant owed rent and did not fulfill his contract what legal resource do I have to reach out over a state line to collect rent due.

You will need to file suit for debt and get him served IAW your state law. Once you receive the money judgment in the case, you can pursue garnishments IAW your state law.

The anon is correct, but made it sound like it's easy to do. It's not. If they left you with no info about them, you will need to hire someone in their new state to find them, and serve them papers. That could be very hard to do, and very costly for you, if the T does not want to be found. Once you check out your state's laws, and the Ts new state laws, you may find it will cost you more than what they owe you now. And even if you would win a judgement against the T, there is no guarantee you will ever be able to collect it. Depending on what they owe you, sometimes it's better to accept the loss, and move on.
