Re: Neighbor taking evicted T 's mail by Nicole (PA) on November 24, 2015 @11:35

the law and actual practice are entirely different.

Mailmen will leave mail under the door mat or between the doors if there is no mail box... ask me how I know.

At least in my area, if someone called the police to report this "crime", there would be ZERO response other than perhaps permitting you to fill out an online form ... but most probably you would be told to contact the postmaster.

If you contact the post master and there is no change of address form on file and the extenant isn't complaining about missing mail, they also won't do anything.

Years ago I evicted a person with dementia & serious alcohol issues ... he was then living on the street. He would come back for his mail (among other reasons). I went to the post office and spoke w/the post mater to explain why I didn't want this guy on my property falling off my porch, etc. Regular mailman didn't deliver the mail. On his days off, the substitutes delivered the mail.

You are right, Nicole. The law and actual practice can be different. But if a mail"person" were to be caught leaving mail under mats or between doors by their supervisers, they would be repremanded for it.
