      Each has a different meaning. The use of the word, spouse, would seem to mean that it is a case of domestic violence. Otherwise why mention spouse?

      Remove tenant for assault would mean that no spouse was involve and the assault was by a tenant against an unknown person.

      I agree that this looks to be a case of domestic violence which means the landlord should investigate. All the remarks about other possibilities seem unwarranted and shows how confused some people can become, when they try to make an issue more than what it is.
