Don't get creative with addresses when it comes to the security deposit check. The state statutes specifies 'last known address' so don't violate it by doing what you think is right.

If they give you a forwarding address, use it. If they do not, send it to the last known address and hopefully they have forwarded their mail. I prefer to get the address in writing if at all possible (more documentation for the file).

If the letter is returned to you, do not open it. File it with the rest of the paperwork as proof of the attempt.
