1. never give money up front to contractors
2. if you want or expect the person / company you're doing business with to be licensed / insured / bonded, ask and verify it.
3. if you want / expect someone to do something specific,......like actually show up and show up on time,....get it in writing and signed by someone with the authority. It's called a contract and most legitimate business people don't have a problem with that.

Hi Dave, I never pay money up front, but didn't signed the contract, so I guess this is my biggest mistake. Also don't have any proof apart from the emails. Can I use our email correspondence as a proof?
