anyone have experience using WATER RESISTENT hardboard (tile board) 4 X 8 panels over a tub or in a shower, where all seams, edges and joints are well and carefully sealed with silicone.
Silicone products, techniques, longevity of install, etc.
I want to try this on a Low end / down and dirty re-work of a stall shower and a tub with shower over.
As an alternative does anyone know of cheap fiberglass or acrylic plastic tile board panels in 4. X 8. ?
I'm trying to keep this under $ 2 a foot for materials (sheet goods )

Use a fiberglass kit. They cost ~200. Overlapping panels, no leaks.

I can't do it myself, but I have paid to have it done. The blue, thick, waterproof backer board is what they call it here. It's great. They tile over it.
