Very expensive install for both materials and labor.
Requires extra support on roof framing to accommodate weight.
May require engineer to evaluate walls and foundation to accommodate weight.
Average roofer today has very little or no real experience installing slate..
While they last an incredibly long time,......and look beautiful,....I wouldn't put one in.

Your very expensive roofing option will outlive you. Unless your building is a prominent structure, the cost will be unreasonable. Previous response is correct but add that snow slides can be a danger with slate roofs. Look up International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants for more info.
