Hiring a Handyman - Landlord Forum thread 362296

Hiring a Handyman by Jason on January 30, 2023 @04:02

I'm looking to hire a handyman and wanted to reach out to my peers (you guys) to obtain advice on hiring someone.

Did you find someone via word of mouth, FB, CL or other means? I currently own three properties with a total of seven units. Five are rented out, one is my residence and one needs a lot of work. I can do the work myself, and my dad has helped me significantly with emergency and general repairs. The problem is the lack of time.

I was opposed to hiring a contractor to come in and finish the place off, but the longer it sits vacant, the longer I go without that rental income.

If I take a Home Equity Loan out for $30k, I would be able to pay off the $30k (and interest) in about 24-months. I feel like I'm being lazy, but considering I work a full-time job, have two kids and other repairs to deal with, I think hiring someone is the way to go.

So --- how should I go about finding a handyman or hiring a reputable general contractor that isn't going to rip me off?

Sorry for the novel. TIA.
