tenant called inspectors after being served 30 not - Landlord Forum thread 335280

tenant called inspectors after being served 30 not by Steven (Ct) on May 20, 2015 @18:05

My wife gave our tenant an 30 day notice to vacate at the end of the lease. Next thing you know I'm getting a call from the building inspector. he didn't find anything but did tell me the tenant called and he had to follow up. I'm not sure why the tenant would call inspectors. Can anyone tell me what I should do with this tenant?

Why don't you ask the tenant why he called the building inspector instead of addressing the "problem" with you since it is your property?

I'm curious to know why he did that. Perhaps he thought he had a valid reason (even though we both know it's BS).

If he were my tenant and did the same, I'd ask him why did it and see what his answer is. I'd then thank him for confirming that I made the right decision not to renew his lease and let him know that this is exaclty the kind of thing judges look for when landlords need to provide evidence that a tenant is a bad tenant.

Wish him the best and proceed with getting him out.
