Also, to add one more thing. If you dont think this was an attempted breakin, then dont report it as such. Your tenants will now be able to say that you reported it as an attempted break in on an official police report.

If one of them was responsible, youve now given them deniability.

Fixing the front door could cost over $1,000. The door and the frame have to be replaced as a whole unit, and the labor costs are a huge ripoff. Faced with that kind of expense, especially for something that you don't feel is your responsibility to pay for as the landlord, would make you "emotionally invested," too.
