Abandonment and Health hazard filth - Landlord Forum thread 354555

Abandonment and Health hazard filth by Anonymous on October 10, 2017 @15:45

My house was abandoned as soon as the lease was up Tenants are unable to be located to serve with court papers. the condition of the house is virtually unexplainable....these folks were filthy and left my house infested with Roaches, Fleas, bedbugs what can only be compared to as "Biblical Proportions". No exaggeration hundreds of roaches crawling everywhere when I entered my house; after the first and second extermination thousands were covering the floors and counter tops, roaches even in the refrigerator and freezer....WOW.....!
Anyway, my question is in an effort to stay on this side of legal.....and in my search for them;

What can I post, in asking for information or whereabouts?

How do I warn other landlords?

What are my options?

Just get your place repaired and ready to rent. Learn to better screen your applicants. Inspect your property often. Posting information about your tenants is just wasting your time and might involve you in a law suit if you do. Just move on.

I agree with the anon. I stopped chasing tenants 25 years ago. I just took my lumps(losses), fixed and cleaned up places, and rented them out again. However, in this day and age, you may be able to find them on Facebook, or similar venues, easier than in the past. But do not "warn" other people, as it is only your opinion as to how bad they left your place. Besides, if you find them, and eventually take them to court, do you really think they will have any money for you to get. It will cost you a lot of time, and money out of your own pocket, just to make you "feel good", with probably no financial payback. As the anon said, learn from your mistakes, and move forward.

"Biblical Proportions" does not happen over night! Did you not inspect your house periodically during the lease term?
